BANN Highlights Optimism at Breakfast Meeting
Not everything in the construction industry is "doom and gloom" these days. The Builders Association of Northern Nevada will highlight some of the industry's bright spots at their Mid-Year Construction Analysis on July 30 at the Atlantis Hotel Casino from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Anyone with an eye on the economy or an interest in the housing market will benefit from this informative breakfast meeting.
With millions of dollars being invested in local commercial development projects, northern Nevada's pro-business climate could be a vital factor in the recovery of the housing market. Brian Bonn Enfant, Project Manager at the UNR Center for Regional Studies, will outline current
local commercial and industrial development and discuss it's impacts.
Mike Castleman, Executive Vice President of Metro Study housing data company, will present
in-depth analysis of the local housing market and comparison to similar markets. He will also provide housing inventory data and projected absorption rates.
Lending industry veteran Doug Smith of Douglas Smith & Associates will discuss
the flow of money and how the mortgage industry can rebound to fuel the housing market into 2009.
Registration fees for the Mid-Year Construction Analysis are $45 for BANN members in advance (paid by July 25) or $55 after July 25. Non-members are $55 and must be paid in advance.

Trowbridge Honored at Marrow Donor Drive
The National Marrow Donor Program and the Builders Association Charity will be hosting a Marrow Drive and Fundraiser in honor of Eric Trowbridge on Saturday, July 26. The Drive will be conducted in the Silver State Meeting Room of the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino.
Eric Trowbridge is an honor student at Galena High School and well on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout. On June 23, a week after his 15th birthday, Eric was diagnosed with a condition known as myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with an additional factor called monosomy 7. MDS is a condition in which the bone marrow does not make enough normal blood cells for the body. In Eric's case, all three types of blood cells (red, white and platelets) are extremely low.
Marrow donor matches are determined through special tissue testing called HLA. People interested in being added to the national registry as a possible donor can do so by filling out paperwork and supplying a cheek swab, which will be tested. The information will be entered into the national registry and available for searches by people in need of a marrow transplant. A voluntary testing fee of $25 is requested but not required. Donations for Eric and the Trowbridge family can be made to the Eric Trowbridge Transplant Fund at any Bank of America or in his name to the Builders Association Charity. Donations are tax deductible.
