BAWN Hosts 2009 Economic Forecast Dinner
BAWN has announced that Dr. Thomas F. Cargill, UNR Professor, will speak at the 2009 Economic Forecast. He is scheduled to speak about what caused the financial crisis, if it was market failure or government failure, and if Japan's "lost decade" is a specter haunting the US.
Cargill has authored a large number of articles and books on financial and monetary economics, many of which have been published in economics literature. Among other impressive experience, he has served as a consultant to the NCUA, World Bank, CIA and the International Monetary Fund. His most recent paper is one comparing the Japanese and U.S. asset bubble and collapse. The economic seminar featuring Cargill will be BAWN's final seminar for 2008.
BAWN Holds Referrals Seminar
BAWN plans to host the "Increase Your Referrals" series Dec. 5. The series, instructed by BAWN member Manny Schatz of Professional Builder Services, Inc. Schatz will help attendees refine the basics skill set for all successful business owners and employees. "Increase Your Referrals" is set to be held at the BAWN Office conference room.
BAWN Women's Council Hosts Pancake Breakfast
BAWN's Women's Council recently hosted the 9th Annual Nevada Day Breakfast. Proceeds from the breakfast support efforts for the Women's Council "Women in Business" Scholarship fund. The breakfast was hosted prior to the yearly Nevada Day Parade.
New National Director Appointed
BAWN president, Tom Finch, has been appointed as a National Director for the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB). Finch is the fifth BAWN member to be appointed as a national director for NAHB, one of the largest trade lobbying bodies in Washington, D.C. The national directors attend three conferences a year, and help direct and set policy for NAHB.
BAWN Hosts Breakfast Seminar
Builders Association of Western Nevada (BAWN) hosted a buffet breakfast seminar Friday, Nov. 14, to inform members about the 401(k) program offered by the association. Topics covered include: The Pension Protection Act, fiduciary best practices and how to manage account services. This educational and informative breakfast seminar is something that company CEOs, CFOs, HR Directors and Trustees will find valuable.
Presenters include: Ed Hendricks and Greg Jacobs of Hendricks and Associates, Henry Giano of Nationwide Financial, Mark Soukup of CLS Investment Firm and John Holz of Benefit Retirement Services.
BAWN Members Learn to Build Green
BAWN held the "A Green Building Strategy" seminar Nov.18, educating attendees about how to utilize green building techniques, get the most value from investments in higher efficiency components, learn how to install systems to gain green home credit, LEED credit and Title 24 credit.
Other topics covered include the building science behind a high performance home, how the installation of key components will affect building performance and how high performance homes provide more comfort, energy efficiency and durability. Sierra Pacific Power Company and the City of South Lake Tahoe are sponsored the seminar.
BAWN to Partner With School District
BAWN is currently considering working with the Carson City School District to provide alternative energy by installing a wind turbine on District property. This is an exciting proposal and BAWN is hopeful that it will lead to community awareness of the many ways remodeling can benefit the daily lives of those in the community.
