BAWN Offers Professional Building Course
Ten BAWN members and industry professionals from the western U.S. invested in their professional growth by attending the Green Building for Building Professionals class July 21 and 22 at Western Nevada College. Completing this class and the Business Management for Building Professionals class, qualifies them to apply for the Certified Green Professional Designation.
For others interested in advancing in professional development, please consider attending the second edition this year of the Business Management for Building Professionals class. Plans are being made to have the class at WNC September 26. The cost is $175 for a one-day class. A registration flyer will soon be available on the BAWN website. Women's Council Hosts Breakfast
The BAWN Women's Council is hosting the Nevada Day Breakfast at Red's Old 395 Grill November 1 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tickets will be on sale soon. Proceeds from the breakfast will help fund BAWNs Women in Business Scholarship
BAWN members Debby Peot of Canyon Electric Company and Rebecca Brooks of Foothill Electric Company have been nominated for the BAWN Women's Council Women in Business Scholarship. Each winner will be awarded $500 during the Annual Installation Dinner in January 2009.
BAWN Hosts Building Seminar
BAWN hosted the "Houses That Work" seminar September 10 at the Sierra Pacific Power Company in Reno. Topics covered at the seminar included design concepts for advanced framing, ventilation control, construction detailing and how to successfully apply the latest technologies. Energy and Environmental Building Association (EEBA) certified trainer Justin Wilson presented at the seminar, which included an educational presentation on building Sierra green homes.
BAWN Offers Members Fall Tutorials
BAWN is organizing a fall seminar series for members. The seminar is scheduled to run September through November, and will tackle subjects such as "How to increase referrals and a look into cutting edge marketing." Each seminar is expected to run two hours. Fees are $20 per person and light snacks will be provided. The schedule for topics is as follows, and dates will be confirmed every month in the news and on the website events calendar.

This series, instructed by BAWN Member Manny Schatz of Professional Builder Services, Inc., will help refine the basic skillset for business owners and employees. Ms. Dixie Dinner Cruise Raffle
To benefit the efforts of BAWNs Membership Committee, committee members raffled a ticket to Ms. Dixie's Dinner and Dance Cruise for Two including transportation to and from Lake Tahoe, at the general membership meeting September 16. Raffle tickets are available at the following prices: One ticket for $5, three tickets for $10 and eight tickets for $20.
BAWN Completes New Website
The Builders Association of Western Nevada (BAWN) has a newly designed website full of helpful information for its members and the general public. Search the member database, learn more about the building industry in western Nevada, or apply online to become a member. A handy calendar of events will keep you updated on the social events, general membership meetings and volunteer activities of BAWN.
The new BAWN website is operational and available at www.bawn.org. The new BAWN website is a professionally designed, easy to navigate and informative, and is one that can be recommended to clients or business associates. It is expected that the new website can help recruit new members or inform others about the successful builders association. The organization appreciates any feedback, comments or suggestions you may have regarding the site.

BAWN Hosts Golf and Wine Tasting
BAWN hosted the BUNCO, Wine and Dine event at the Silver Oak Golf Club September 12. Members mingled with your BUNCO participants and enjoyed hors d'ouvres while learning to play or honing BUNCO skills. A night of wine tasting and a gourmet dinner followed the game. The event supported BAWNs Women in Business scholarship.
